One of my roles on the team is to design motion into the components of our library. To start this process, we wrote our motion guidelines and formulated a list of general timings and easing curves to be used as a starting point when implementing motion into a UI. While some components offered in the library already included motion, this list provided new guidelines for making motion decisions on team-specific components. We kept the ground rules flexible so they could be adapted to any future, unforeseen motion use cases. These new guidelines have been recognized by animation designer, Val Head, in her motion email newsletter, UI Animation Newsletter.
