The Date Picker is one of the more complicated components in our library from both a design and code perspective. We needed several variations of the Date Picker, ranging from a basic month/date input to a more complex date range picker plus ‘pop-up’ calendar. Since coding this component from scratch was going to be very complicated we decided to consume pre-built code from another open-source library. While this code helped to jump-start the component, it also presented some roadblocks in our initial design direction. Nonetheless, through rounds of design iterations and a series of feedback sessions we were able to overcome these challenges and produce a tested, ready to use component.
